Your Opportunity The Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM) is responsible for the administration of the animal care program for the Faculty of Medicine. Its mission is to provide excellent care built on professional dedication to animal welfare, to support the Faculty’s research endeavour by serving as an important resource of in-vivo research expertise and best practices, and to provide animal use training and research support services. As Director, DCM you will lead the operations of our local animal care program with a dual commitment to uncompromising animal welfare and research excellence. Collaborating closely with the University Veterinarian and DCM veterinary staff, you will ensure that all animals involved in research and teaching are cared for in full compliance with University standards, the Ontario Animals for Research Act , and the guidelines of the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC). Driven by strong financial and people leadership, you will optimize fiscal and human resources to ensure research teams are fully equipped with the tools, equipment, and expert in-vivo guidance required to drive world-class science. Essential Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with a license to practice in Ontario (or eligibility to obtain licensure through the College of Veterinarians of Ontario prior to start date) A minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in a senior position overseeing a major academic, hospital or industry-based animal care program, including managing clinical care, biosecurity, health surveillance, animal husbandry, and technical procedures Financial management experience, including overseeing cost-effective services, optimizing administrative efficiency, and developing and managing budgets Experience developing, leading, and mentoring teams, with a preference for candidates who have successfully led staff and interpreted collective agreements within a unionized environment using established HR policies and procedures Experience building relationships with and providing expert consultation to a wide variety of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organization Experience in managing and implementing major change projects Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, project management tools, with the flexibility, adaptability and desire to seek out, learn and embrace new and emerging technology Proven commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity Proven leadership and management skills, including outstanding interpersonal, communication and presentation skills Demonstrated decision-making ability with respect to organizational structure, staff and management Strong decision-making skills; superior planning and project management skills with a focus on executing and competing tasks under pressure and within deadlines Excellent conflict resolution skills with strong ability to exercise judgement, tact, discretion, and determination Ability to maintain a broad perspective; ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with all levels of faculty, staff, senior administration and external constituents Closing Date: 09/14/2026,11:59PM ET Employee Group: Salaried Personnel Subarea: PM Appointment Type : Budget - Continuing Schedule: Full-Time Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: PM 8 -- Hiring Zone: $165,350 - $192,911 -- Broadband Salary Range: $165,350 - $275,585 (Open) Job Category: Administrative / Managerial
